George Washington Creef Sr.'s Shad Boats

Mr. Creef built shad boats in Wanchese in the late 1800's. The boats' special shapes allowed the fishermen to handle the boats in the shallow, and frequently rough, waters of the Sounds. Shad Roe comes to mind... lightly pan fried in bacon grease in a cast iron fry pan, served with asparagus on toast points, all drizzled with butter and lemon juice. Daddy Bill's favorite, and mine ,too. 16x20" SOLD
