First Telephone Cable for Manteo

I borrowed this image from my dear friend Natalie who is filling my life with stories of Manteo in the early 1900's. These men who she named, but I can't remember... (her memory is much better tuned than mine) were working with the first cable for telephone service to Manteo and Ice Plant Island, now Festival Park. In the background is the Roanoke Inn and in the distance, The Tranquil House Inn. Both Inns were filled by men who who come to the area to "hunt shore birds". "Drummers" also stayed at the Inns... what's a drummer, not Ringo, but traveling salesmen who were on the road to "drum" up business. 11x14"
